First Draft of New Novel: DONE
This is a status report, and everything is positive.
Recovery from operation: ON TRACK
Recovery from pneumonia: FULLY RECOVERED
COVID Status: TESTS REPORT NEGATIVE
New Novel: FIRST DRAFT COMPLETED
I did have a bit of a bad day yesterday, as everything exhausted me almost instantly and so I started fearing I might have the makings of long covid, but today I seem to be fine, so hopefully that was just the result of not getting a good night’s sleep.
Enough of that … what about the new novel?
The tentative title is: ALL THINGS STRANGE AND DANGEROUS
It was initially conceived as “All Creatures Strange and Dangerous” as a play on the James Herriot novels, specifically “All Creatures Great and Small,” but ultimately, that didn’t fit with how the story plays out. What I wanted, and what I got, was a throwback to more golden age Sci-Fi that is mainly about adventure and exploration, with a dash of Jack Vance’s flavor of quirky characters and settings. I’m not sure I pulled that last part off, but that was at least the intention. What I ended up with is entirely my own quirky characters, situations, and sense of ironic twists.
Now I’ll let it sit for a while so that when I go back and start the rewrites, I’ll have some perspective and see it with fresh eyes.
In the meantime there’s another book cooking in my brain, so stay tuned for tidbits about that.
Hope this finds you well!
Take care,
Jerry
